The Bulldog is a specialized offensive play designed to create an interior scoring opportunity, often culminating in a post-up or close-range shot. It typically employs a tandem of screens to disrupt defensive positioning: a cross screen on the interior to free a player on the block, concurrent with a ball screen on the perimeter. The ball handler uses the perimeter screen to attack the paint aggressively, collapsing the defense and drawing attention away from the post.
The play begins with Player 2 setting a ball screen for Player 1, while Player 4 simultaneously sets a cross screen for Player 3. Player 1 then drives off the ball screen, drawing help defenders, and delivers a bounce pass to Player 3, who has sealed their defender inside for a hook shot.
