The Floppy is a versatile offensive set designed to free a skilled shooter or cutter by utilizing two simultaneous down screens on opposite sides of the low post or block. The offensive player positioned in the middle, often referred to as the 'cutter' or 'shooter,' has the option to choose which screen to use, or even fake using one and then cut off the other, making it difficult for their defender to anticipate their movement. This action creates significant advantages by forcing the defense to communicate precisely and react quickly. If the defense loses track of the cutter or gets caught on a screen, it often leads to an open perimeter shot, a catch-and-drive opportunity, or a backdoor cut. The Floppy is highly effective because it gives the offensive player a two-way read, akin to a Pinch Post Pick and Roll but for an off-ball action, maximizing the chances of creating separation.
Two screeners set down screens on opposite sides of the lane, creating a two-way option for a cutter. The cutter uses one of these screens to sprint out to the perimeter, receiving a chest pass from the ball handler to initiate offense.
