The Hook Double is an advanced offensive play designed to create a high-percentage scoring opportunity, typically a lob or [[dunk]], by utilizing a sequential double-screen action for the rolling player. It begins with a primary ball handler initiating a drive or a high screen and roll (HSnR) action, drawing initial defensive attention. The 'double' aspect refers to the immediate follow-up: as the first screener rolls to the basket, a second offensive player sets a screen for that rolling player, effectively creating a double screen effect on the defense guarding the roller.
The play starts with Player 1 driving, while Player 2 sets a [[pin-down]] then a [[down-screen]] for Player 3. Player 4 then sets a [[ball-screen]] for Player 1. As Player 1 drives off Player 4's screen, Player 2 sets a second [[ball-screen]] for Player 4. Player 4 then dives hard to the rim for a [[lob-pass]] from Player 1, leading to a dunk.
